melton I hope he puts out all the archives he finds! I really dig the bizarre atmosphere, sci-fi psychedelic weirdness. Wicked cool Favorite track: The Earth Sleeps Below II.

about

Due to the primitive nature of the recordings they do have assorted tape drop outs, tape hiss, clicks and distortion. Also, the Minisonic synth can be hard on the ears at times due to it going wildly out of tune!

Be warned - all are very basic and primitive but some structure was beginning to creep into some of the areas I was exploring…..

Improvised and recorded by Steve Hillman in 1978.

Steve Hillman: Synda the Audio Generator, Minisonic Synth, Jumbo Gem Electronic Organ, descant recorder, wooden flute, voice, concert zither, electric guitar and various effects pedals.

Linda Hillman: Wooden and concert flute and voice.

"Moon Drone" is the only track from these archives that has ever had a previous release which was on the 2004 Auricle compilation album titled “Dronsz”.

“First Sequence” is probably the first time I did anything resembling a sequencer although in this case (and for the years that followed!) I played the Minisonic by hand to achieve the effect.

“The Earth Sleeps Below” was the title I originally gave to the track in this compilation back in 1978. I later used the title for a different piece of music on 1999’s “Convergence”.

Two tracks - “Exaltation” & “Sunsets Of Summers Past” formed the basis of a follow up to 1999’s prog rock album “Convergence” which was going to be called “Sunsets of Summers Past” but the album never saw the light of day. The latter track has always held a special place in my heart. It was something I improvised one day on guitar in the Summer of 1978 after Linda had spent the night with me and I’d watched the full moon shine down its light on her sleeping face. Memories…
