Thaneco An excellent collection of psychedelic electronic music from the master of this genre. Also very delighted to listen to the wonderful improvisations of Linda on the recorder. Very primitive and beautiful at the same time! Favorite track: Another Memory.

about

Due to the primitive nature of the recordings they are mono with assorted tape drop outs, clicks and distortion. To enhance some tracks they have had added reverb or echo added. Compiled and edited February 2021.

Be warned - all are very basic and primitive but give an indication of
where I was back then and act as pointers to where I was going…

All tracks improvised and recorded by Steve Hillman 1976.
Sound sources: Synda the Audio Generator, acoustic guitar, recorder, short wave radio, voice, assorted percussion, a newly acquired fuzz distortion pedal and a voltage controlled filter.

Cover art by David Edwards.

In 1975 I’d had the notion to use the acoustic guitar in an unorthodox manner and found that by placing a knitting needle under the strings it could be made to sound like a zither, dulcimer or similar instrument and various examples are to be found throughout this collection.

Tracks 23 & 34 features Linda, then my girlfriend improvising on recorder.

Track 32 features Linda reciting one of her poems that she had written in 1975.

SOLAR SOLACE

Silent, clear the ocean lay,
over spreading troubled shores and indefinite action.
Reflective qualities draped in night,
glided serenely over deep conclusion,
while myriad colours glowing profusely,
guarded the entrance to Truth unquestioned.

Softly below shrouded in ethereal slumber,
the dry arid sands of eternity tensed,
as the Solar winds carried all content,
over the earth towards an astral shore.

Gulls solemnly mourned pitiful notes as the soul sounds echoed,
dying in caverns of care.

Still and breathless the sounds vibrated,
high born emanations falling to a discarnate hum,
as the seeds of humanity scattered,
never to undo what they had done.

In August 1976 I built a Minisonic Synthesiser which was a DIY synth purchased in kit form from a design in Practical Electronics. The first taste of it can be heard on tracks 33 and 34. More to come in the next Psychic Remnants series of archive releases.
